Steve Wilson and sons

Steve Wilson and his sons Samuel and Marshall fished with us today. We found a huge school of dolphin this morning and caught or limit out of it. They were hungry enough that they were eating the bait as soon as they put it in the water. After the dolphin we decided to try to catch a wahoo which worked out for us thankfully. Marshall caught his first one today and had another nicer one on later in the day that came off after a big run. We stopped on a wreck and did a little jigging and Sam caught a citation amber jack, 44 lbs and 50 inches long. We were wondering why he had such a hard time catching it. While we were jigging we had a manta ray swim right up to the boat which was pretty cool. It was another beautiful day on the water. Thanks for the day guys. Hope to see you again soon.

Lundy on Monday

We had our buddy Lundy, who always fishes on a Monday, from Dumfries , Va. and a couple of his buddies aboard today. We struck out this morning to go and look for wahoo's but I was not very successful in the hunt. We found a log that was loaded with dolphin and caught our limit off of it. We put down the wire line and immediately caught a wahoo and never had a bite in several more passes. We had rain squalls around until early this afternoon so it was a little hard to fish the changes and stay out of the grass. Some boats fishing a few miles above us caught fair catches of wahoo this afternoon with one oat having 8 but we were just to far away. I guess I zigged when I should have zagged. We also caught a sailfish today. He was a pretty little rascal, one of the smallest we have caught in a right good time. There is some great fishing going on right now guys so come on down and lets go wet a hook.

Dolphins and Wahoo

We had a struggle with the dolphins today. I just knew I was in the meat when I found a 8 foot long piland floating in the water first thing this morning. We caught one fish around it and that was that. I fished the change for another hour with no luck and decided to go on off deeper and look for a wahoo or some blackfin tuna around the rocks. That plan didn't work either so back to the change I went where I stayed for the rest of the day. We probably found 5 schools of dolphin where you would catch 4 or 5 out of and a scattered single in between. We finally got a group that acted right and finished up with our limit there. We trolled off of the change for awhile and lost a wahoo and caught one and had a couple of more bites before going home. Another Beautiful day on the water. Thanks Butch and gang. Looking forward to doing it again.

Half Day with the Krimpenfort family

Today The Krimpenfort family(Ron, Austin, Savannah, Kim and Isabel) form Cincinnati , Ohio had us booked for a half day of inshore fishing today. Unfortunately the fish didn't cooperate very well but the weather was absolutely beautiful with a little bit of a cool breeze to keep us comfortable. We caught a couple of Spanish Mackerel, a few bluefish, an albacore and we hooked another albacore around a wreck that Spike, who is the resident Barracuda that we nicknamed, decided to have for his late morning snack. All in all it was a good morning of fishing and a very enjoyable crowd. Hopefully they will return to see us another day. Fishing the next couple days so check back in, same bat time, same bat channel.

Shaw Construction

We had a crowd from a Shaw contracting group today. They have 3,000 people working on just two jobs which in this economy is great. We started the day out looking for a wahoo and had some success, it was our first fish of the day. We caught a couple of dolphin and then another wahoo. It looked like the day was going to have some action then it all kind of stopped for awhile. We hooked a nice sailfish got a few jumps out of him before he came off, then we hooked that big gaffer that weighed close to 35 lb.s. A nice dolphin for any time of the year. We then found a small school of dolphin around a float and caught 4 or 5 , there were more but the knotted up and wouldn't eat. A change had come together inshore of us a couple of miles during the day and the head boat crossed it on his way home and told us about it. Another boat and myself ran in there and working together we finally found a big school and caught our limit out of it. Thanks Sam for bringing everyone and giving us a chance. Hope to see you guys again in the fall for some Tunas.

August 12th Brooks Party

We had Doug Brooks his children Christina, Rick and Kyle as well as his brother Warren along with us today. The fishing was slow today and it was 3/4 of the way rough. It was a beautiful ride out and was pretty when we set out but when we got to where we were going to fish the conditions had changed and it was stacked up and rough. There must have been some underlying current in the cooler water. We had a couple bites and caught this nice pair of dolphins. We had a few more bites but didn't connect. The kids weren't feeling well so we started on our way home around 11. I stopped at a wreck that was on the way home and we caught some albacore and watched the barracudas eat them on the way in. We also caught a barracuda, saw some amber jacks, hooked a sailfish and caught a hound fish. It was much nicer inshore than off just wish the fish we needed were there. Fishing Sat. and Sun. so check in and see whats up. The picture is of Christina with her dolphin and the boys with theirs , it ate two baits so they both caught it. Warren also got a citation for the release of his Cuda.

Storm Chasing

We had a good line of thunderstorms shove through last night so my son and I took a ride to go and watch some of the lightning show. What a show it was too. We took some video and he wanted to put it on the blog so here it is. Nothing spectacular but it was fun spending some time with him watching the show. Fishing in the morning so check in tomorrow.

Nice catch of Bailers

Tim Ichinaga and some of his friends for the great state of New Jersey had us chartered today. What a great bunch of guys and a pretty good gal as well. Dolphin fishing was hard going this morning. We found several schools that just wouldn't eat and just scrapped along for a couple of hours. I finally found a patch that had a nice school of hungry good sized bailers around it and we caught our limit there. We also caught the biggest Ramora that I have ever seen, must have been close to 3 feet long. Would have loved to seen the Blue Marlin that sucker came off of. We had an extra passenger for a couple of hours today. Once he got rested up he took off again. He was a little fella to be so far from home. Weather looks pretty the next couple days so come on and lets go.

Aug. 4th sails and dophins

It was a great day today on the sailfish and dolphin. Most of the boats that wanted them had their limit of dolphin. Some went on up the line and caught some blackfin tuna and a few wahoo. The big bite for the day were the Sails. Two boats caught 5 a piece and several more had between 1 and 3. All but one or two charter boats did not catch at least one for the day but saw a few. Sounds like some had a little bit of my luck on them yesterday. The weekend looks pretty as well as the beginning of the week so come on while the fishing is hot and the weather is pretty.

Blue Marlin

Just goes to show you that here in Hatteras you never know where a Blue One Will show up. This one just happens to be in the bottom of a friends pool. I couldn't resist it. Going up the beach today to carry my Dad to some Dr.'s Appt.'s. Have a good day everyone.
